Noah Round.
Noah who had enlisted into the Royal Navy at the tender age of 16 (Noah was born on 20th February 1899) was the next to be killed in action. He had already served aboard HMS Impregnable and HMS Verona when on 31st May 1916 aboard the HMS Invincible he was killed during the Battle of Jutland. The Invincible was the flag ship of Admiral Hood and the 3rd Battle cruiser squadron.
This sea battle was the one and only time that both High Sea fleets of both the British and Germans were to cross swords in a full-scale battle. The British although suffering more loss of ships and life compared to the German fleet claimed victory as the German fleet retreated back to its bases never to come out again as a complete fleet. Over 6,000 British sailors lost their lives during the battle and Noah was killed when his ship HMS Invincible blew up after a German shell penetrated one of its shell magazines, There were only 6 survivors.
Noah having being killed at sea is remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial on panel 15.
